In 2022, I had the opportunity to visit Baby Life Rescue Centre Trust (BLRCT) and witness the incredible work that Selpher and Peter Mutua are doing for many young children in Mombasa. I wasn’t sure what to expect upon arriving, but the moment I stepped through the gate and into the yard all worries and anxieties I had went away. I was welcomed by Selpher who shared the history of BLRCT and all of the incredible programs for the children. While I had the opportunity to engage in deeper conversation with Selpher and some of the caregivers, the ability to interact and just play with the children was the most rewarding. I was bombarded with smiling faces and giggles while we played a freeze dance game while marching around the yard. We continued for what felt like hours playing around and coming up with our own versions of games and dances before the day came to an end. Nothing else mattered except for the fun that we were having, and nothing stopped us from just being silly together.
